Founded in the fall of 2005, Merced Baptist Church is a new church with an old-fashioned heart. We are a friendly, fundamental, unaffiliated Baptist church located in the heart of Merced. Our first service was held on Sunday, October 2nd, 2005 at the Veteran’s Memorial Building on Main Street. Our church started with a core group of about 12 people but has continued to grow as God brought people into our congregation. For the first few years we continued to hold our Sunday morning services at the Veteran’s building. In the spring of 2008, we moved to 533 West Main Street. Here at this location, God continued to bless and grow our church.
In the fall of 2014 God began to open a door for us to move into a larger facility. We have prayed for this for many years and now it was coming to pass. The facility, though in need of improvements, was in a great location near a major shopping center (Costco) and visible from the highway. When we started the process we did not dream that God would also open the door for us to purchase this property, but this is exactly what God has done. We finished the first phase of our improvement by the end of May, 2015 and held our first services at our new location, 1004 West 15th Street, on the last Sunday in May, 2015. We are continuing to improve and develop this property and look forward to many years of ministry here at this location.
We are Unaffiliated:
Merced Baptist Church is an autonomous (self-governing) body of baptized (immersed) believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are not part of any denomination, association, conference, or hierarchy. We have fellowship with other unaffiliated Baptist churches in California, the United States, and the world.
We are Fundamental:
That is, we believe the Bible is God’s Holy Word and the only authority for faith and practice. We also believe in separation from unscriptural doctrine and movements such as the ecumenical movement.
We are Baptists:
We are Baptist because we hold to the historic Baptist positions and Baptist distinctives: The Bible is our sole authority for faith and practice, the autonomy of the local church, the priesthood of all believers, two ordinances- baptism and the Lord’s supper, individual soul liberty, saved church membership, two offices- pastor and deacon, and the separation of church and state.
Merced Baptist Church was founded to
- Exalt Christ through worship
- Evangelize the unsaved through outreach
- Edify believers through discipleship
We hope that if you have not visited one of our services, you will do so soon!
